I went over to Hebden Bridge a few weeks ago to see Roy Bailey, veteran folk singer / guitarist for over 40 years, a great performance by Roy at the Trades Club, a superb club that really does get some of the finest performers playing on a very regular basis.
I have seen a good few great Folk singer / Songeriter performances at the Trades Club over the last few years, a great venue, with a very appreciative audience.
Roy Bailey's performance was superb, I have not heard a great deal of his music, maybe listened to a couple of his C.D.'s and a few tunes played on the Mike Harding Radio 2 Folk show on a Wednesday night, but as any review of Roy Bailey will tell you, he is not to be missed.

Reviews
Business As Usual: "Roy Bailey is the greatest socialist folksinger of his generation. He has the capacity given only to a few of making history really live and meaningful here and in other countries - we are fortunate to be able to learn through his supreme and committed artistry"
Tony Benn MP
The gig was not a sell out by any means, more like a private party in truth, but Roy really amazed myself and a friend who I had gone with, his voice is unbelievable, his guitar playing amazing, and the songs he played fantastic, I was very grateful to Roy for playing "More Than Enough" from his C.D. Sit Down And Sing - ROY BAILEY with MARTIN SIMPSON and JOHN KIRKPATRICK, a superb collection of 15 songs.
Here is a little info about Roy taken from Wikipedia.
Roy Bailey (folk singer)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roy Bailey MBE is a British socialist folk singer and songwriter. Roy began his singing career in a skiffle group in 1958.
Colin Irwin from MOJO magazine said Roy represents "the very soul of folk's working class ideals... a triumphal homage to the grass roots folk scene as a radical alternative to the mainstream music industry."
In the 2000 Honours List, Roy received the MBE for services to folk music.
In 2003, Roy together with Tony Benn were awarded "Best Live Act" at the BBC Radio 2 Folk
Awards, for their hugely successful programme "Writing on the Wall." Tony Benn cites Roy as "the
greatest socialist folksinger of his generation."
He is an Emeritus Professor of Social Studies at Sheffield Hallam University.
